It is a branch of medical science, which makes use of physical agents ( heat, light, cold, sound, water, electricity, manual therapy & other gadgets working on physical principles ) in the treatment of various acute & chronic ailments. Physiotherapy has a vital role to play in the management of Neurological, Musculoskeletal, Cardiothoracic, Respiratory, Pediatric, Sports Medicine, Geriatric, Obstetric, Gynecologic & Psychosomatic conditions & also management of the patients put under intensive care unit.
Bachelor of Physiotherapy
The degree offered is a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik (State Health Science University). The duration of the degree is 4 Years and 6 months course including a compulsory rotatory internship of 6 months. The curriculum offered is one of the most updated with emphasis on the physiotherapeutic principles underlying treatment in all the branches of medicine. Academic teaching of all subjects is followed by intensive practical training & hands-on application on patients in clinical settings.
Master of Physiotherapy
The degree offered is a Master of Physiotherapy under the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik (State Health Science University). The duration of the degree is Two (2) years course. We offer Post Graduation in Cardiovascular & Respiratory Sciences, Community Health Sciences, Musculoskeletal Sciences & Neurosciences
General concept of Physiotherapy
The physiotherapist is recognized as a health care professional to which other health care professionals will refer patients for assessment and necessary treatment The physiotherapist is a part of the health care team concerned with the overall management of the patient and consequently must understand the roles of other health care professionals. Lately, Physiotherapists have gained the status to be able to practice first-contact treatment.
Prospects
The demand for physiotherapy services at the present day is projected by the need for rehabilitation services for 5% of the population estimated to be having chronic disabilities and diseases.
The magnitude of the need for these services has remained the same for the last quarter century.
On completing the course, the graduate physiotherapist can be placed as a lecturer, tutor cum therapist, trainer, supervisor & practitioner in any branch of rehabilitation medicine.
