NEURO PHYSIOTHERAPY

NEURO PHYSIOTHERAPY

About

Neurophysiotherapy is a branch of physiotherapy that deals with patients suffering from various neurological disorders from paediatric age group (0-12 yrs) to adult age groups. At our department, various neurotherapeutic skills are used by the experienced staff members to make the patient functionally independent.Starting from Intensive care unit, may it be Surgical ICU or Medical ICU, a patient with neurological dysfunction is treated as a whole. Here every possible care is taken by the neurophysiotherapy staff to prevent further complications so that recovery is hastened.

In the wards such as Medicine, Paediatric, surgery etc, neurophysiotherapy appends the likelihood of ful functional recovery for patients with various neurological disorders such as stroke, spinal cord injury, Motor neurone Disease, Parkinsonism, Cerebral Palsy, Craniotomy, Brachial Plexus Injury, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Duchene Muscular dystrophy & many more.

At the Physiotherapy OPD , with the help of various therapeutic tools such as Vestibular balls, Tilt tables, balancing boards, wall bars, ramps & stairs, EMG biofeedback, Electrical Muscle stimulation, every attempt is made to restore the best possible functional recovery in these patients.

Apart from rendering quality treatment to the patients, imparting knowledge to the undergraduate as well as postgraduate students is the key thrust area of the department. Along With post graduate students, undergraduate students are also given due exposure in the indoor as well as outdoor patient department. Students are given hands on practice for quicker acquisition of the skills.

Research is a key for opening the lock of vast knowledge. The department has a privilege of being conferred upon MUHS Teacher Fellowship in 2011 worth Rs.25,000/-. Further efforts are being done to bestow many more funded projects in the department. At present there are 6 research projects going on emphasising on various areas of neurophysiotherapy.
